Obituary for
Donald W Robinson
Robinson. Donald Walter.
94. One of a kind- a very special kind. Don was welcomed into this world by his parents Walter and Viola Robinson on April 10, 1926 in Rockford IL. After a full and happy life, Don died on June 16, 2020 in his home at Timber Hills surrounded by his loving family both here and virtually. He will be remembered for his sense of playfulness and humor, his signature laugh, his devotion to the Presbyterian church and his commitment to helping others. Don was a devoted husband- giving his wife Betty flowers weekly until the very end. He took joy in so many things- his family, his dogs, cats and all manner of other critters, his love of music, travel both here and abroad, and the outdoors. He had a passion for jazz, tennis, baseball, and bridge. He loved to cook, creating dishes his own way and with his own style (maple syrup anyone?). A proud and persistent liberal, he was ever ready to share his beliefs and wisdom--his views on the last four years are well-known. Don served his country near the end of WWII in the Army Air Corp – fostering a lifelong passion for flying. He gave up a budding minor league pitching career to focus on higher education in which he was hit in the head less often. Don was an inspiring educator, serving as a Dean of Education at several Universities and following that as a consultant to Colleges and Universities as they sought accreditation for their programs. Don will be missed by his children, Debbi, Galen, darci and Greg, their spouses, Cheryl, Kim, Don and Qing, his 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, the love of his life. We are comforted knowing that they are once again together. Memorials preferred to the First Presbyterian Church of South St. Paul, the Allina Hospice program and KBEM.FM/Jazz88 public radio.
